Welcome to the ‘Chain Reaction’ indoor team building activity!
Decide upon a simple task and accomplish it using strictly household items.
Teams compete to brainstorm a simple task, such as ringing a bell, switching a light on, or catching a mouse! If that last one sounds bizarre, it’s because it comes from the classic children’s game, Mouse Trap, where players create a chain reaction to ‘catch’ a mouse. Examples of said household items include, but are not limited to: string, tape, marbles, paperclips, and dominoes.
Depending on your time and budget, more advanced and ambitious chain reactions can be made! Possibilities are nearly endless!

Teams will create a chain reaction using household objects accomplish a basic task such as switch a light on or make a ring a bell.
To start, participants will watch a brief series of chain reaction examples to give them ideas for kick starting their team brainstorming session. After brainstorming a task to accomplish, teams will then select from a range of everyday household items which they will need to make their chain reaction.
With their objects and plan ready, teams spend start the next phase of the activity; implementing and perfecting their chain reaction. The final phase of this creative and innovative team building activity is demonstration time. Teams will explain their chain reaction and demonstrate it to the other teams and a panel of Making Teams staff and company judges.
A time limit will be set and participants will be under pressure to be creative and work together in this fantastic problem solving activity. Ultimate teamwork and innovative thinking is required to create a working chain reaction!
This team building activity normally takes place in a meeting room or convention hall within a hotel however it is possible to set up Chain Reaction within a warehouse type space for truly ambitious projects. Alternatively, clients may suggest their own location to conduct this event.
The winning team is the team that creates the most imaginative chain reaction, as judged by a joint panel of Making Teams staff and company judges.
There are no safety concerns.
The delegates are assigned teams, the activity is explained, and a series of example videos are shown to demonstrate and provide ideas. Once the teams have finished, they will demonstrate their chain reaction and a panel of judges will decide the winning team.
The ideal length for this activity is a minimum of two hours of brainstorming, designing, and testing followed by a final demonstration to a panel of judges. This program can be adapted to a half day, full day or multi-day team building activity depending on your budget and expressed level of ambition you’d like to see in the chain reactions.
